Palace Vestibule – Gary, Indiana

SKU: PALCV Category:

Long Exposure Photograph of Gary, Indiana’s infamous Palace Theatre. Blue strobes illuminate the grand lobby where theatre-goers once congregated before an evening of entertainment. Following a run of crime linked to the decline of US Steel, the theatre closed in the early 1970s. Even though the Jackson 5 never actually performed here, in 2001, the city cleaned up the theatre’s facade, adding murals and “Jackson Five Tonite” to the marquee to prepare for a week of visitors when Donald Trump held the Miss USA pageant at the Genesis, just a few blocks north of the Palace. Eventually vandalism, arson, and water damage took over what used to be a grandiose, opulent gem and transformed the building into an urban explorer’s mecca.
